Moment with the Mayor

One of the most common questions I receive relates to the taxes, grants, and fees paid by residents and service users. A review of the City budget begins with understanding the two primary components: the Operating Budget and the Capital Budget.

The City of Lloydminster functions much like other municipalities across Canada, but the legislative framework that guides how the city operates is unique, reflecting Lloydminster’s bi-provincial nature.

Many people ask about city council duties and responsibilities.  The standard answer includes City council responsibilities are often understood to include attending meetings, preparing for agenda items, and voting on matters affecting the municipality. Another key part of the role involves responding to questions and concerns from residents and local businesses.

As we begin 2026, my calendar is already filling up with great community events, and I thought it would be a good time to share some of what is coming up this year.

Snow is always a popular topic of conversation in Lloydminster, and this winter, it has been top of mind for many residents. I want to take a moment to share some insight into what the City has been doing, the challenges we face, and how our winter maintenance process works.

As I sit down to close out 2025, I can’t help but reflect on all that has happened in our community this past year. It seems time moves faster with every lap around the sun.

I want to share some insight into the RCMP contract that guides policing in the City of Lloydminster. The City has a service agreement with the federal government for RCMP contract policing within our municipal limits.

One recent weekend, I had the opportunity to spend some time in Nomex coveralls working in the local oilfield. As I travelled between sites, I was reminded in a very tangible way of the influence the oil and gas industry has on the neighbours around our city and on the city itself.
