Neighbourhood Block Party

Block Parties can be hosted by residents of Lloydminster. 

Block Parties are a great way to:

• get to you know your neighbours;
• grow your social and support connections;
• help enhance your feelings of safety and belonging; and
• have fun!

This program provides organizers with:

• a Block Party Kit including games and sporting equipment;
• a Block Party icebreaker activity;
• door hanger invitations; and
• participant name tags.

If needed organizers are also provided with;

• street closure assistance;
• financial support to offset the cost of food; and
• liability insurance.*

*The City of Lloydminster carries insurance for residential Block Party organizers during their event. This insurance does not provide coverage to events that serve alcohol or cannabis and those that include other high-risk activities such as swimming and bounce houses.

Block Party Kits are FREE to reserve! Within the application, don’t forget to request financial support to offset the cost of food and food-related items.

Block Party parties can be hosted year-round! The games and sporting equipment of the Block Party Kit are suitable for all seasons.
In the summer months organize a BBQ or picnic to celebrate a holiday. In the winter, create a winter wonderland with hot chocolate and snow-based activities. In the spring or fall,organize a thank you for your neighbours after a community cleanup! Think outside the box and be unique with your Block Party!

Block Parties are intended to support community ties, therefore requests for birthday parties, reunions or family gatherings will not be accepted.

Block Parties can be hosted at numerous locations:

• public streets (pending an approved Road Closure Permit);
• public parks;
• backyards;
• garages; or
• any space big enough for your attendees!

It depends on how big of an event you feel comfortable organizing and what can be accommodated in your area. You can invite the neighbours on either side of your house or apartment, your entire block or floor or simply those who live in your area!

The Neighbourhood Block Party program provides “door hangers” which can act as invitations if no one is home when you go to invite them.

Yes, organizers may be able to close streets upon receiving an approved Road Closure Permit which can be filled out on the Neighbourhood Block Party application.

Backyard fire pits are permitted within City of Lloydminster limits. Please check fire restrictions prior to hosting.

The City of Lloydminster does not allow consumption of alcohol or cannabis within public spaces (parks, streets) at any time.
Liquor and cannabis can only be served and consumed on private property. The City of Lloydminster carries insurance for residential Block Party organizers during their event. This insurance does not provide coverage to events that serve alcohol or cannabis.

There is no specific time when Block Parties must end; however, they are subject to noise restrictions as per Community Standards Bylaw (29-2022).

Block Party organizers can choose from a variety of games and sporting equipment for all ages and ability levels such as:

• Giant Checkers Set (1 board and 24 checkers) 

Please note, quantities of Block Party Kits are limited and allocated on a first come, first serve basis.
