Upper Level of Lloydminster Golf & Curling Centre Under Temporary Closure

Lloydminster, AB/SK – The upper floor of the Lloydminster Golf and Curling Centre building is temporarily closed to public access as staff conduct testing for asbestos-containing materials (ACMs).

Recent surface testing revealed a slightly elevated reading of ACMs in a mechanical room on the upper floor.

The closure will impact the Green Glacier restaurant area, as well as administrative offices and storage areas on the second floor. The public will still have regular access to the lower level, including curling ice, viewing areas, raquetball courts, and change rooms.

The temporary closure is a precautionary safety measure and remains in effect until further notice. Additional testing will be completed in coming days.

Background

On November 21, 2024 the entire LGCC building was temporarily closed after regular air-quality testing revealed asbestos-containing materials. Following a series of air tests and surface-wipe tests, the building was re-opened to the public on December 2, 2024. The building's asbestos presence is known and typical for structures of its age.
