LloydVotes: Election day reminders for media

Lloydminster, AB/SK – Members of the media are reminded of the following provisions as outlined by the Lloydminster Charter and the Saskatchewan Local Government Election Act, 2015.

• On election day, until the last poll closes in all electoral districts, the Canada Elections Act prohibits the dissemination of:
• election advertising
• results of election opinion surveys not previously released
• Election advertising posted on the internet before election day does not need to be withdrawn, but it cannot be amended once the blackout period has begun.
• Media representatives are not permitted within polling stations on election day and must not impede the free movement of electors.
• If the location allows, media may film or photograph from the doorway of a polling site as long as they do not disturb electors, identify the voter or compromise the secrecy of the vote. Media are asked to arrange this in advance with the Returning Officer.
• Hard copies of the poll-by-poll results will be available after validation, which takes place between one and seven days after election day. Media can request a hard copy of poll-by-poll results by contacting the returning officer.
• Unofficial results will be issued following the close of polls and after the tabulation of ballots.
• Official results will be posted once the Returning Officer has verified the results.
• Ballots will be hand counted. Results on election night may take longer than usual to be announced.
