Lloydminster Fire Department recognized with Salute to Safety award

Lloydminster, AB/SK - The Lloydminster Fire Department has received the Salute to Safety Award from Community Safety Net, recognizing 20 years of commitment to fire prevention and education. This award highlights the department’s ongoing efforts to promote awareness and reduce fire-related risks in the community.

The department has developed a range of fire safety programs, including:

  • Community Presentations: Sessions for seniors, young adults, and families about fire safety.
  • School Visits and Fire Station Tours: Demonstrations, gear showcases, and fire truck tours.
  • Library Fire Safety Talks: Safety tip presentations for young adults.
  • Routine Inspections: Ensuring homes and businesses follow fire safety standards.

The department’s firefighters play a key role in educating the community about fire safety. Activities like school visits and inspections help reduce risks and ensure the community is better prepared for emergencies.

Residents are encouraged to stay informed about fire safety. Simple habits, such as testing smoke alarms regularly, closing bedroom doors before sleeping, and practicing family evacuation drills, can make a significant difference in an emergency.

Quote

"Many people think, ‘It will never happen to me,’ but emergencies can happen to anyone, anywhere, at any time. That’s why we work so hard to promote simple but effective practices, like having working smoke alarms on every floor and creating exit plans for your family. These small actions save lives.”
