Lloyd Votes: Candidate nomination packages now available

Lloydminster, AB/SK – Candidate nomination packages for the Lloydminster municipal byelection, scheduled for February 13, 2024, are now available at City Hall and on the City of Lloydminster website – Lloydminster.ca/LloydVotes.

Beginning January 3, 2024, the election's Returning Officer will begin accepting official nominations for those seeking to run for City Council. Interested parties have until 4 p.m. on January 9, 2024, to submit the required paperwork. The deadline to withdraw is January 10, 2024, at 4 p.m.

Municipal candidate eligibility

A person is eligible to be nominated as a candidate in the municipal election if the person:

• is at least 18 years of age on the day of the election;
• is a Canadian citizen;
• has resided in the City of Lloydminster for at least three consecutive months and in Saskatchewan/Alberta for at least six consecutive months immediately preceding the date on which they submit nomination papers; and
• is not disqualified pursuant to the Saskatchewan Local Government Election Act, or any other act.

After determining eligibility, a candidate files nomination papers that include signatures of at least 25 eligible voters, a completed Candidate’s Acceptance form, and a $100 nomination deposit to the City of Lloydminster.
