GPC Highlights - May 21

Administration Presentations

1. Administration presented an update regarding Cenovus Energy Hub construction. The 19-page report is available online at CenouvsEnergyHub.ca under News & Updates. The Committee accepted the project update as presented.

Governance and Priorities Matters

1. Administration presented draft updates to the Fire Services Bylaw (No. 28-2020). Some of the proposed changes to the Fire Services Bylaw include and are not limited to:

  • consistency with formatting and numbering throughout the bylaw;
  • addition of identifiable address posted on the front of buildings (commercial properties);
  • clarity to Recovery of Costs, Section 15.4;
  • updating Service Fees and Penalties, Schedule ‘B’ and referencing the Fees and Charges Bylaw; and
  • removal of Transitory, Section 19.1.

Education continues to be a key focus of the Fire Services team. As such, when someone is found to be in contradiction of the Fire Services Bylaw, in most instances, a warning is issued before assessing a fee and/or penalty.

The Committee accepted the presentation as information and directed Administration to bring the item forward to a future Council meeting for a decision. Additional information is available starting on page 19 of the Council agenda dated May 21, 2024.

The next Council meeting is scheduled for Monday, May 27, 2024, at 1:30 p.m. via livestream and in person.

Lloydminster City Council, GPC and Special Council meetings are open to the public and available at Lloydminster.ca/livestream. For the complete schedule, visit Lloydminster.ca/agenda.
