City-wide residential snow removal begins January 6, 2025

Lloydminster, AB/SK - As the snow continues to fall, the City of Lloydminster will begin a city-wide residential snow removal campaign on Monday, January 6, 2025. Crews section their work using the curbside collection zoning map, starting in the yellow zone and proceeding to the blue, green, orange and pink zones.

Crews typically work in two zones at a time to ensure snow removal is completed efficiently. A dedicated cul-de-sac cleaning crew will begin in the pink zone and move to other areas as needed.

A city-wide residential snow removal generally takes up to four weeks to complete, depending on weather conditions. In the event of significant snowfall during this period, resources may temporarily shift to priority routes before resuming residential clearing. For updates and more information, visit Lloydminster.ca/SnowOps.

Resident and Driver Cooperation

Residents are asked to remove vehicles, garbage carts, and any other street obstructions before snow removal begins in their area. Signage will be posted 24-48 hours in advance to provide notice. Snow will be plowed into windrows at at the center of the street and cleared by equipment within 24 hours. Motorists are reminded not to drive over or through windrows. The City of Lloydminster is not responsible for any damages caused by doing so.

For safety, drivers must maintain a distance of at least eight metres from snow removal equipment, and parents should ensure children stay away from snow piles and machinery. After the snow is cleared, an ice ridge may remain between the road and driveways, and it is the responsibility of property owners or tenants to remove it.

As outlined in the Community Standards Bylaw, property owners and tenants are also responsible for clearing snow and ice from sidewalks adjacent to their property within 72 hours of a snowfall. Snow and ice must not be placed onto streets during clearing. Additionally, a one-metre (three-foot) radius around fire hydrants must remain clear of snow and ice. Creating a pathway to the nearest sidewalk or roadway is recommended to improve accessibility and safety.

Rotating Parking Restrictions

Rotating parking restrictions will be in effect in curbside collection zones where crews are actively working as per the City of Lloydminster’s Winter Maintenance Policy (No.320-01). These restrictions apply Monday to Friday, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., excluding holidays, and vary based on route priority:

Once activated, the ban will be in effect Monday to Friday, excluding holidays, and includes:

  • Priority 1 Routes - 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Priority 2 Routes - 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and during residential snow removal (with 24 hours notice)
  • Priority 3 Routes - No overnight parking
  • Residential Snow Removal - 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. with 24-48 hours notice

Vehicles left in restricted areas during snow removal may be towed at the owner's expense. These measures ensure crews can work safely and efficiently to keep roads clear and accessible for all.
