City receives economic development award for Central Business District Rehabilitation Project

Lloydminster, AB/SK— The City of Lloydminster received the Economic Development Renewal Project – Medium Community/Region award at the Economic Developers Alberta (EDA) Awards on Wednesday, April 9, for its Central Business District Rehabilitation Project.

The award recognizes projects that transform vacant or underutilized properties into key economic, social, and cultural activity drivers. The Lloydminster Downtown Area Redevelopment Plan (DARP) has revitalized the downtown core, creating new opportunities for businesses, residents, and visitors.

Key elements of the project include:

  • Upgraded utilities and surface work
  • Wider sidewalks, improved lighting, and landscaping
  • Community input through the Façade and Building Improvement Program
  • Focus on accessibility and environmentally friendly practices

The DARP demonstrates the value of strategic planning, community collaboration, and design in driving change. The success of the first phase supports continued development in the downtown area.
