City of Lloydminster seeks volunteers for new Municipal Policing Committee

Lloydminster, AB/SK—The City of Lloydminster invites residents to apply for volunteer positions on the newly established Municipal Policing Committee. Created in response to recent adjustments to the Alberta Police Act, the committee aims to strengthen public safety and connections between residents, policing initiatives, and the local RCMP detachment. Serving as a direct link between the community and law enforcement, the committee will enhance collaboration and support local policing efforts.

Committee members will play a key role in:

  • Overseeing the administration of the Municipal Police Service Agreement between the City and the RCMP.
  • Representing community concerns and interests to the Officer in Charge/Detachment Commander.
  • Developing an annual plan of priorities and strategies for local policing initiatives.
  • Creating a Community Safety Plan, encouraging collaboration among community organizations and agencies.
  • Reporting annually to the Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Services (Alberta).

Commitment

  • Members will attend four to eight in-person meetings per year, each lasting one to two hours.
  • Appointees will serve a two-year term.

Eligibility
Applicants must:

  • Be 18 years of age or older.
  • Reside within the City of Lloydminster.
  • Pass an enhanced security check, including a criminal record and vulnerable sector check.

Eligible residents are encouraged to apply before March 24, 2025, at 11:59 p.m. 

Applications may be submitted online at Lloydminster.ca/Police or in person by requesting a paper application at City Hall (4420 50 Ave | 780-875-6184). Paper applications may be submitted at City Hall during business hours (8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.) or dropped off after hours using the mail slot.

City Council will appoint successful candidates at a future Council Meeting.
