A Moment with the Mayor: Our public works team
The Public Works team plays a vital role in our everyday lives here in Lloydminster and in all other municipalities. Our team here in the city is comprised of many people, and they care for us in many different roles.
Public Works is the group that has many different areas that they are responsible for, roads, water and wastewater, parks and green spaces, airport, arenas, environmental facility maintenance and then our custodial team, who ensure that our public buildings are clean and ready for use. All these teams, through their individual areas, work together to support our quality of life. They face the elements throughout the year snow and ice, through to rain, sun and mosquitos. Many of our team members can be found operating equipment or completing tasks with their hands and feet.
We have a variety of full- and part-time staff who complete the tasks necessary to support our city. The roads team, for example, deals with pothole repair and patching, street sweeping, and snow clearing or removal. We have many seasonal summer students who help with completing line painting, patching and crack filling. The sign team maintains street signs throughout the year and across the city.
The water team ensures that we have great drinking water and that the lines and valves remain operational year-round. They assist with line breaks and the flushing of lines. Fire hydrants require maintenance to ensure that they operate as required. The installation of water meters, disconnects and replacements are all tasks completed by the water services team. The wastewater team ensures wastewater and stormwater lines are cleared, and no blockages occur. This team also makes sure that the waste from the city is properly treated and handled from a regulatory perspective. The environmental team is responsible for garbage and compost. They manage our landfill on a daily basis to ensure our compliance with provincial and federal standards.
The entire group of Public Works in our city is in the hands of a dedicated and competent team who strive to provide great experiences for residents, businesses and visitors alike each and every day. I want to thank each and every member of our Public Works team for all that they do to make our city a great place to grow, live, work and thrive!
