A Moment with the Mayor: No magic wand

As Mayor, I receive many requests or inquiries. They arrive in different ways; most come by mail, email or phone. The invitations are often to bring greetings or a welcome on behalf of City Council and the City of Lloydminster. At other times, I am invited to be a guest at a gala, banquet or celebration. All these events are great opportunities for our community’s hospitality to shine brightly.

My office receives requests to meet and to address concerns regarding issues in our city. Each one of the inquiries is important, especially because you have taken the time to raise the issues. I have learned that your concerns are your priority, and as residents and businesses, you expect the matter to be dealt with quickly and decisively. This is where I wish I had a magic wand; regretfully, this position did not come with such a tool. This could make the job of mayor be changed to Merlin the Magician. This dates me a little as I turn to my childhood and Sunday evening TV with the Wonderful World of Disney and the programming at the time.

Back to the matter of issues that are brought to my attention. As the inquiries or concerns are raised, they are forwarded to City Administration and the appropriate department for more details, background or interpretation of a bylaw, policy or procedure. Sometimes, I am lucky enough to provide an answer or update immediately if I have recently dealt with a particular issue and have the information to share.

City Administration, my fellow council members and I strive to respond to all inquiries and concerns that are raised in a timely fashion. Depending on the issue or concern, you may receive a response very quickly. If there is research to be done and more information is required, the answers can take a bit longer to get a response to you.

As a City Council, we welcome your questions, inquiries and concerns. You can reach us in person, by phone or by email. The best methods to connect with me are to email me at mayor@lloydminster.ca or by phone at 780-871-8341. Complete contact information for myself and fellow Councillors is available online at lloydminster.ca/council

If you have a city concern, please use the Report a Concern feature on our website: lloydminster.ca/ReportaConcern.
