A Moment with the Mayor: Information Sharing
One of the most rewarding parts of my role as Mayor is the opportunity to connect with people from across our city, our two great provinces and, on occasion, from around the world. Whether it’s a quick wave across the room, a conversation in person, or through this article, I’m honoured to represent Lloydminster and share in the stories and experiences that shape our community.
I value every opportunity to discuss the exciting things happening in our city and listen to your concerns. Whether you're a resident, a business owner, or a neighbour, your voice matters. These conversations help guide the work we do and ensure we stay connected to the needs of our community.
One of the challenges for Council and myself is ensuring accurate and timely information reaches everyone—residents, nearby communities, and our provincial and federal partners. I appreciate when people share the opportunities and issues they face each day. I also welcome questions from those who may not know the full story or who want more background on a decision. These conversations are a reminder of the importance of clear communication.
It also brings to mind the saying: could have, should have, would have. Experience is often the best teacher. As we go through life, we learn what works best. At the City, we're constantly working to improve and adapt to a changing landscape — locally, provincially, federally, and beyond.
Transparency and open communication are among my top priorities. Shortly after I was elected, we introduced a Governance and Priorities Committee (GPC) structure. These meetings do not involve council decisions, but they create space for discussion, questions, and learning for both Council and the public. If you ever have questions about items raised at a GPC or regular council meeting, please reach out. Your questions often lead to more questions from us, which ultimately leads to better decisions.
Lloydminster and the surrounding area appear to be on the edge of growth. Understandably, this raises important questions: How will we prepare for that growth in a fiscally responsible and forward-looking way? What infrastructure will be needed? How do we meet growing demands for recreation, culture, and services while balancing our city’s other priorities?
These challenges are significant, but they also bring exciting possibilities. I'm looking forward to what’s ahead for Lloydminster and continuing the conversation with you in council chambers, around town or wherever we meet.
