A Moment with the Mayor: Here Comes Santa Claus Day
It’s pretty common for me to open this article about the snow blanketing the ground and how the early stages of winter have treated us; however, this year’s winter isn’t like most. As I write this, there’s barely a skiff of snow.
What is true, like years past, is that Santa is set to return to Lloydminster again on Saturday, December 2, for the sixteenth annual Here Comes Santa Claus Day in the beautiful Downtown Lloydminster.
It's my understanding that many of Santa's assistants and elves are busy planning for his upcoming visit to Lloydminster. We’re truly fortunate to have such a dedicated group of organizers who put in a lot of effort to make this day a special gift for our community. I believe that everyone, regardless of age, looks forward to the chance to meet Santa, take a photo and enjoy a fun-filled afternoon with their loved ones and friends.
Here Comes Santa Claus Day is packed with many free family activities. To get the day started, the Lloydminster Kinsmen and Sobeys are serving pancake breakfast at the Lloydminster Legion, followed by Synergy Credit Union’s wiener roast with help provided by the Lloydminster Fire Department. Throughout the day, attendees will also have an opportunity to see Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer and enjoy gingerbread house decorating and hot chocolate, among other activities. Rumour has it that the Grinch will also be in town, and who knows what he’ll get up to.
There’s so much to do downtown during Here Comes Santa Claus Day. Check out the Meridian Source and Facebook (Here Comes Santa Claus Day) for more details. The fantastic list of free events keeps growing, so make sure you get connected to learn more about all these great happenings right here in Lloydminster.
As we enter this season of celebrations and festivities, please remember not to drink and drive. We also recognize that this can be a difficult time of year for many. Please take the time to check on your neighbours. The RCMP and protective services team will be conducting many roadside check stops to ensure motorists and pedestrians alike are safe this holiday season!
