A Moment with the Mayor: Frequently Asked Questions from the Community

As we enter the fall season and approach municipal elections, several important topics are coming up in community discussions. Here are some answers to common questions.

According to the last Census by Statistics Canada in 2021, Lloydminster’s population is recorded at 31,582. The next official census is scheduled for 2026. Many in the community feel these numbers don’t fully reflect our city's actual size and believe it may be larger. However, conducting our own local census would be costly, as the expense would need to be covered by the community.

The 2024 municipal election is currently underway. Candidates for both rural and urban councils are running to represent you for the next four years, alongside school board elections happening at the same time. On November 4, the Lloydminster Chamber of Commerce will host an all-candidates forum in the WLS Room at the Lloydminster Exhibition, providing an opportunity to hear directly from those running for city council about their views and ideas. For more information on the forum, visit lloydminsterchamber.com.

Events are organized daily in our city by various groups and individuals. Lloydminster offers many exciting activities and has excellent indoor and outdoor facilities to host a wide range of events. Community organizations and stakeholders are essential in making our city even more vibrant and welcoming. Effective communication and planning are essential to a successful event, and countless hours go into organizing each one.

If you're hosting an event in Lloydminster, please contact City administration early on to ensure all necessary permits, approvals, and signage are in place. Our staff strive to provide the best support and information to make event planning as smooth as possible.

We can all be successful with a strong team going in the same direction.
