Green Carts and Organic Waste
Why use the green cart?
Recycling organic materials in the green cart diverts waste from the landfill and is collected either weekly or twice-monthly throughout the year. The City of Lloydminster collects organics weekly from April to November when it changes to every second week pickup.
With the absence of yard waste, the City observes an 80 per cent decrease in curbside organics collection during the winter.

Collection Tips
Placement of carts is important! The automated arm on the truck can only operate if it has enough clearance to maneuver.
Follow these easy steps to ensure easy collection.
- Have your cart out by 7 a.m. on your collection day.
- Place your carts so that the wheels are to the curb (facing forward).
- Do not park in front of cart until the organics are collected.
- Reminder, angle parking in a cul-de-sac is not permitted. Items will not be collected.
- Keep your carts one metre (an arm's length) apart so the truck's robotic arm can grab it.
- Ensure that the lid is fully closed. Overflowing carts will not be emptied.
- All food waste must be bagged in certified compostable bags before being placed in the green cart.
- Grass clippings and small branches can go directly into the green cart as normal
- Do not overload carts - maximum 200 lbs. Heavy carts cannot be picked up by the truck’s mechanical arm.
- Extra bags outside the cart will not be picked up. Loose material will not be collected.
Taking care of your cart
- Store your cart away from direct sunlight.
- Rinse your organics carts weekly. You can use diluted bleach or a water-vinegar solution to minimize the odour. A small amount of laundry detergent, powdered lime or baking soda layered at the bottom of your cart can also help control odour.
- Bag items inside the kitchen catcher with a certified organic bag or brown paper bags.
- You may choose to use larger paper sacks or certified organic bags to line your organics cart, but it is not required.
- To request cart repair or report a missing cart, complete the Report a Concern form or call Waste Services at 780-874-3700, Ext 2794.
