Grey (garbage) carts and recycling are picked up weekly. Green (organics) carts are picked up weekly from April through November, then switch to twice-monthly from November to April. The 2024/2025 Collection Calendar is available for download.
Curbside Collection
Curbside collection is the City of Lloydminster's program for collecting organics, recycling and garbage.
Residents receive one green bin to dispose of organic materials and one grey bin to dispose of garbage. Residents are responsible for purchasing blue bags to recycle other materials including cardboard and plastic.
Curbside collection occurs by zones and it happens in your neighbourhood on the same day all year, including holidays. The only exceptions are Christmas Day and New Year's Day when collection takes place one day earlier.
Did you know?
Did you know that more than 8,420 single and multi-family homes participate in the curbside collection program? Since its inception in April 2013, the program has diverted over 30,000 tonnes from the landfill.

Frequently Asked Questions
The following list is commonly asked questions. If your question is not included, please email curbside@lloydminster.ca or phone 780-874-3700.
What is the collection schedule?
The 2024/2025 curbside collection zoning map outlines the collection zones and is available for download.
My cart was damaged, lost or stolen. Can I get a replacement?
To request cart repair or report a missing cart, complete the Report a Concern form or call Waste Services at 780-874-3700, Ext 2794.
The placement of your cart(s) is important. If your grey and/or green cart(s) were not collected, make sure you are following the appropriate steps:
- Have your carts and blue bags out by 7 a.m. on your collection day.
- Place your carts so that the wheels are to the curb (facing forward)
- Place blue bags on the curbside, not boulevards or front lawns
- Do not park in front of carts or blue bags until they are collected
- Keep your carts and blue bags spaced one metre (an arm's length) apart.
- Ensure that the lid is fully closed. Overflowing carts not be emptied
- Extra bags outside the cart will not be picked up. Loose material will not be collected
- Do not overload carts. Heavy carts cannot be picked up by the truck’s mechanical arm.
Tomorrow is a holiday. Will curbside collection still occur?
Yes. Curbside collection still happens on holidays. The only exception to this rule is Christmas Day and New Year's Day. If your collection day falls on either of these holidays, place your cart appropriately on the curb one day early.
My grey cart is full, where can I put my extra garbage?
Garbage set beside the cart or overflowing from the cart will not be picked up. Additional garbage can be taken to the landfill for free, or if possible, hold onto excess garbage until the next scheduled pickup day.
My green cart is full, where can I put my extra organics?
Excess organics set beside the cart or overflowing from the cart will not be picked up. If possible, hold onto excess organics until the next scheduled pickup day, or use a backyard composter.
____________________________________________________________-___
Meat, fish, bones, cooked foods, pet waste, and dairy products are not suitable for a backyard composter, but they can be placed in the green cart.
Why do my carts have an RFID tag?
RFID systems are common in the solid-waste industry, as more communities are recognizing the significant benefits. By implementing the system, the City of Lloydminster will, over time, identify opportunities to improve existing service and divert more waste from the landfill. Using RFIDs, the City of Lloydminster can also verify collection services - enhancing customer service.
Privacy
The City of Lloydminster is committed to protecting your privacy. The RFID system will collect information such as addresses and date and time of collection. This information is collected in accordance with the Local Authority Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (LAFOIP). The RFID system will not collect personal information.
If you have any questions about the collection, contact the LAFOIP Head at 780-871-8328.
Where can I find more information?
For more information, call the Operations Centre at 780-874-3700 or email curbside@lloydminster.ca.
What bin does Styrofoam go in?
Polystyrene foam, commonly called Styrofoam, is a cheap insulator for food and homes and is often used as a packing material. The City's curbside collection services cannot clean, store or transport Styrofoam for recycling.
Residents must place Styrofoam in the grey garbage cart. Recycling blue bags and green organics carts containing Styrofoam will be in violation and will not be picked up.
Can I put an old stereo in the garbage?
No.
Electronics, among many other household items are accepted at the landfill. For a complete list of accepted items, visit Lloydminster.ca/landfill.
Why do I not get a discount for organics collection from November to April?
The waste and recycling collection fee on the utility bill already accounts for the change in collection frequency of the organics in the winter. The City of Lloydminster charges a fixed fee throughout the year for administrative efficiency.
What do I do with my natural Christmas tree?
Curbside Christmas tree collection will take place January 13-17, 2025. Please place your tree on the curb by 7 a.m., making sure all tinsel and decorations are removed.
Natural Christmas trees can also be dropped off at the Lloydminster Sanitary Landfill from December 27, 2024 – January 27, 2025, during regular operating hours.
