Fire Safety Lockbox
To enhance the delivery of fire protection services in our community, fire lockboxes on select properties and businesses within the City of Lloydminster are now required under the Fire Services Bylaw (Bylaw No. 28-2020). These changes went into effect in January 2021.
What is a fire lockbox?
A lockbox provides emergency responders quick access to a building. They must contain all keys or devices required to access the building and the fire/life safety systems. All keys and devices must be attached to a key ring and their use is indicated by an attached tag. Lockboxes need to be installed on the exterior wall of the building within close proximity to the principal entrance.
What are the benefits?
While this program is a requirement under the Fire Services Bylaw (Bylaw No. 28-2020) there are many benefits to including a lockbox as part of your fire safety plan:
- Provides the Lloydminster Fire Services with access to your building during incident response.
- Helps prevent forced entry through doors and windows to your building during incident response.
- Decreases incidences of operational issues, such as keys stored inside jamming the exposed lock mechanisms.
- Removes reliance on power supply or batteries.
