Backyard Burning and Fire Pits
Back yard fire pits are allowed in the Lloydminster city limits as long as the rules below are followed.
Pit Construction and Placement
- Must be 3 metres (10 feet) from buildings, property lines, or combustible materials and free of dry grass, brush or combustible soil, such as peat moss.
- Pit shall not exceed 1 metre in width, height or diameter when measured between widest points.
- The pit or outdoor fireplace must have enclosed sides made from bricks, concrete blocks and heavy gauge metal or non-combustible material.
- A spark arrester mesh screen with openings less than 1.25 centimetres and made of expanded metal must be used to cover the fire pit opening and be able to contain and reduce the hazards or airborne sparks.
Conditions for Burning
- One adult (18+) present at all times with available means to extinguish the fire
- The fire pit must not cause nuisance or inconvenience to neighbours
- The following materials are allowed for burning:
- Clean wood products with no preservatives
- Prefabricated burning logs
- Manufactured combustible gasses or solid fuel designated for home barbecue use
