Decks
When and how to apply?
- Any deck on your property greater than 0.6 metres in height will require a building and development permit.
- Development permit applications can be found here. or at the Operations Centre located at 6623 52 Street.
- A site plan will be required as part of the development permit application. On it you will need to provide:

- Location of Deck
- Square footage of Deck
- Distance to all property lines
- Dimensions (length, width, height)
- Location of steps
- Number of tiers on deck

- Keep in mind that deck construction cannot be located on, under and/or over any portion of an easement or utility right of way.
- Owner Authorization will be required if you are not the property owner.
- The fee for a Development Permit for a deck is $90. As per our fees bylaw.

Balcony
Uncovered deck that does not have direct access to the ground.
Deck
Unenclosed platform(s) with direct access to the ground.
Covered Deck
A covered deck is a roofed platform attached to a dwelling, with direct ground access, optionally enclosed by glass or screening.

- Uncovered decks, landings, patios and stairways that do not exceed 0.6 metres in height, DO NOT require a permit but must adhere to all setbacks and regulations set out in the Land Use Bylaw.
- If your development application is refused you may have the right to appeal the decision within fourteen (21) days of the date of notice of decision
- It is the applicants’ responsibility to Call before you dig to locate utility and service locations on your property.
- It can take up to 15 business days to have your permit reviewed and approved, so be sure to plan ahead.
- Should you construct and apply for a permit after the fact, you will be charged double the permit fee, as indicated in our fee bylaw.
- When you apply, personal information may be collected under the authority of the City of Lloydminster Land Use Bylaw and will be used to process the application and may be used to provide statistical data. This information is subject to the provisions of the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FOIP).
