Utility rates support the collection and treatment of wastewater from residents. Wastewater is any water that has been affected by humans used in a home, business, or industrial process. It is disposed of through sinks and toilets. It drains and enters the City’s sewer system, which flows to the wastewater treatment facility where it gets treated to remove contaminants. Then it gets returned to the North Saskatchewan River. This process is supported by:
- An infrastructure with 35 km of pipe running from our Wastewater treatment plant to the river
- Removing over 1 million kg of contaminates from wastewater that
re-enters the North Saskatchewan River each year
- The treatment of over 3.2 million m3 of water per year at our water treatment plant
