Census Report

Federal Census

A Census is a federal survey taken every five years. This survey is designed to give a detailed portrait of the country and the people within it. Governments, businesses, associations, community organizations and scholars make important decisions for your community, province or territory and country, using the information from the census.

Census information is particularly important for our community, and is used in the planning services for schools, public transportation, senior housing and police and fire services.

Population estimates obtained from the census' are used to allocate the proper transfer payments from the federal government to provinces and territories and municipalities.

In Canada, it is mandatory for all residents to participate in the census. This includes Canadian citizens, landed immigrants, refugee claimants, and people who hold a work or study permit.

The latest federal census was completed in 2021. This information was released on February 9, 2022. To view the 2021 census, visit the Statistics Canada website.

Municipal Census

Traditionally the municipal census has been implemented every two years. Due to budgetary considerations, the next municipal census has yet to be determined.
