Assessment Review Board (CARB & LARB)

The City of Lloydminster utilizes the Alberta Assessment System and as well follows the Alberta system of processing assessment complaints. A Local Assessment Review Board (LARB) is established to hear complaints with regard to farmland and residential property with three dwelling units or less. A Combined Assessment Review Board (CARB) is established to hear complaints with regard to residential property of four or more dwelling units and all commercial/industrial property. Both boards have a total of 3 members. The LARB is comprised of 3 members appointed by City Council, the CARB is comprised of 2 members appointed by City Council and 1 member appointed by Alberta Municipal Affairs. All members of an Assessment Review Board are required to take specific training to be qualified to act as a member of the Board.

City Assessor The Lloydminster Charter requires that City Council appoints an assessor for the purpose of assessing properties for taxation purposes.

Lloydminster Combative Sports Commission
For the purpose of regulating, governing and controlling boxing, wrestling, kickboxing, and all other sports that hold bouts and contests between opponents involving the striking with hands, feet, knees or elbows within the City of Lloydminster, there is hereby created a Commission with members to be appointed by resolution of the City Council.

The Lloydminster Cultural & Science Centre Advisory Board shall have the purpose of promoting the growth and development of the Culture through community engagement and fundraising. Monies raised shall be administrated by the Richard Larsen Barr Colony Foundation.

Subdivision Development Appeals Board
The Subdivision and Development Appeal Board is responsible for appeals regarding various issues as determined by the Alberta Municipal Government Act. The nature of these appeals include minor variances, demolition, direct control districts, architectural controls, misapplication of the Zoning Bylaw in issuing a development permit, refusal to issue a development permit, refusal of a subdivision application, and any condition of a zoning order issued on a property.

The Subdivision and Development Appeal Board is an independent body composed of seven members-at-large as appointed by City Council. Members serve a two-year term. The board meets as required.
