Lloydminster Firefighters Ascend to Rooftop for 2017 ALS Awareness Campaign

Lloydminster, AB/SK - The Lloydminster Fire Department will once again brave the elements during the ALS Rooftop Campout from Nov. 24 - 26, 2017.

The department recently received the 2017 ALS Society of Alberta’s Exceptional Fundraising Program Award, having raised over $100,000 since 2013.

Supporters are encouraged to stop by Fire Station No. 1 to make donations, have a coffee, visit with firefighters as they camp out in the cold all weekend long.

Having lost a friend and fellow firefighter to ALS in 2013, this cause is particularly near and dear to the hearts of our members,” said Fire Chief Jordan Newton. “Each year, the level of local generosity and morale support far surpasses our expectations. This weekend, we encourage all Lloydminster and area residents to stop by Fire Station No. 1 to cheer us on and join the fight against ALS.”

The Firefighter’s Brunch is served on Nov. 25 from 8 a.m. - 11:30 a.m., tickets are $20 and can be purchased at LGCC or at City Hall.

ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease) is a neurodegenerative disease where the nerve cells that control muscles die. ALS is a terminal disease which has no cure, nor an effective treatment. In Canada, approximately 2,500-3,000 people are living with ALS. The lifespan after diagnosis is, on average, two to five years.
