City of Lloydminster Adopts Governance & Priorities Committee Model

Lloydminster, AB/SK – The City of Lloydminster is implementing a new governance model, providing City Council enhanced opportunity to review and discuss emerging matters.

Adoption of the Governance and Priorities Committee (GPC) model enables Mayor and Council to review and discuss new initiatives with members of Administration before items are added to the agenda for future City Council meetings.

“The recently completed governances audit outlined a number of recommendations on how to create a more effective municipality, including a change to our governance model,” said Mayor Gerald Aalbers. “Moving to a GPC model provides our Council with greater opportunity to carefully consider important issues and policy changes.”

Interim City Manager Rick McDonald said the GPC model also supports enhanced opportunity for Lloydminster residents to engage in the municipal process.

“The essence of a GPC model is to provide a forum for productive discussion and debate, rather than decision making,” said McDonald. “We hope residents will take advantage of these new opportunities to engage with Council through public presentations.”

Lloydminster City Council will continue with bi-weekly Council meetings, with the addition of one GPC meeting each month. GPC meetings and City Council meetings are open to the public.

An updated schedule for City Council and GPC meetings is available at
