National Day of Mourning is April 28

Lloydminster AB/SK – The City of Lloydminster will recognize a Day of Mourning on Friday, April 28 for those who have been disabled, injured or killed in their place of work. The public is welcome to attend the ceremony.

At 9:30 a.m. on April 28, the proclamation for a Day of Mourning will be signed by Councilor Ken Baker at City Hall, 4420-50 Ave. The flags will be lowered to half-mast and a moment of silence will be observed. The ceremony will be held in partnership with the Lakeland Regional Safety Committee. Coffee and Donuts sponsored by ATCO.


Every year on April 28, workers, families, employers and others come together at ceremonies around the world to remember those who have lost their lives on the job and to renew their commitment to creating safer workplaces.

Members of the local business community are encouraged to also declare April 28 as a Day of Mourning and to continue to be proactive in the prevention of work-related incidents and occupational diseases.

9:35 a.m. – Councilor’s Speech
9:40 a.m. – Signing of the Proclamation
9:45 a.m. – Flag Lowering ceremony with a moment of silence.
9:50 a.m. – Exciting announcement on upcoming Lakeland Regional Safety Committee events.
