City Videos Help with Curbside Collection and Organic Waste Disposal

Lloydminster, AB/SK – The City of Lloydminster is using short instructional videos to address frequently asked questions about the curbside collection system and organic waste disposal.

The curbside collection video demonstrates how to properly place the garbage and organics carts, as well as bluebags, to ensure easy pickup on collection days. The organics waste video provides examples of common household items that can be disposed of in the Green Cart.

“The curbside collection program has been tremendously successful in creating cost savings and improved recycling practices,” said Alan Cayford, Director of Public Works. “We do still get questions about proper placement of the carts and how to properly deal with organic material. These videos will help clarify some of those common questions and concerns.”

The videos can be viewed on the City website at http://www.lloydminster.ca/Green123.

The curbside cart collection system was implemented in spring 2013 and has helped the City of Lloydminster divert more than 4,000 tonnes of waste from the landfill each year.

How to place your garbage and organics carts

Carts are to be placed at the curb by 7 a.m. on scheduled collection days. The cart must be facing forward with the wheels to the curb and must have one meter of clearance on all sides to allow for the automated arm of the truck to complete the pickup.
