Fire Safety Advisory Issued for City of Lloydminster

Lloydminster, AB/SK – To reduce the increased fire risk caused by continuing dry, hot weather, Lloydminster Fire Services is issuing a fire safety advisory for the City of Lloydminster.

A fire safety advisory reminds citizens to be cautious when using outdoor open flames, including barbeques and backyard fire pits which meet City of Lloydminster bylaw standards and disposing of smoking materials. Residents are also asked to be cautious when in City greens spaces/parks and are reminded to properly extinguish smoking materials in ashtrays.

“Due to a warmer than usual spring with minimal moisture, Lloydminster Fire Services reminds residents to keep fire safety top of mind,” said Fire Chief Jordon Newton.

Residents should be aware that even if the weather includes some moisture, this fire safety advisory may remain in effect, as there may still be an increased fire risk.

With wildfires, as well as similar dry, hot weather conditions occurring in some Alberta communities, many have implemented fire bans and advisories. Fire bans are more likely to be called if the community does not have other bylaws or policies in place around burning and open flames. The City of Lloydminster has defined burning restrictions and with the current risk, a fire ban is not required at this time.

Lloydminster Fire Services continues to watch weather forecasts and conditions to ensure Lloydminster is prepared for any changes to the fire risk and will update the status of the fire safety advisory as needed.
